AgenciesGrocery delivery startup Kiranapro faced a severe cyberattack after which its servers were deleted, chief executive and cofounder Deepak Ravindran confirmed in a post on LinkedIn.
The company, which enables users to order groceries from nearby kirana stores, lost a huge amount of data after the incident, which it became aware of on May 26. Hackers gained root access to the startup's accounts on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and GitHub.
The KiranaPro app remained online but was unable to process orders for hours after the attack.
"Last week, KiranaPro — a company built on the trust of thousands of small businesses — faced a targeted cyberattack. It wasn’t random. It wasn’t opportunistic. It was deliberate. And it was personal," the founder detailed in his post.
Ravindran said the company has filed a complaint with the cybercrime cell and is working with ethical hackers and forensic experts to understand the full picture. He has also reached out to GitHub, including the founding team, to request a copy of the compromised repository from their internal backups and audit logs.
