Remarkably, he completed the 36-hole qualifier without a single bogey, outperforming seasoned professionals, including 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson.

    Howell's journey to the US Open began with a standout performance at the local qualifying tournament at Hawkstone Country Club in Gainesville, Florida, where he tied for first with a 7-under-par 64.

    Additionally, Howell played a pivotal role in leading Brookwood's boys' golf team to win the Georgia state championship, securing the individual low medalist honor in a playoff.
