Pirates vs. Phillies series opener delayed by rain at PNC Park

The Pirates vs. Phillies matchup scheduled for Friday evening, June 6, at PNC Park is in a rain delay. The game, originally set to begin at 6:40 p.m. ET, is now expected to start at 8:00 p.m. as rain continued to affect game-time conditions in Pittsburgh.

This marks the second consecutive game for the Pittsburgh Pirates to be delayed due to weather. Their previous contest against the Houston Astros on June 5 experienced a delay of over three hours, with the first pitch pushed from 6:40 p.m. to 10:02 p.m. The Pirates lost that game 8-2.

It is the second time the Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies have opened a game with a weather-related delay this season. The May 16 game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia was delayed by an hour and 45 minutes, with the first pitch moved from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Pirates have now experienced seven total rain delays during the 2025 MLB season. Four of those delays occurred in May, including back-to-back delays at PNC Park against the San Diego Padres on May 2 and May 3. Those delays lasted 70 minutes and one hour and 40 minutes, respectively.

Another delay occurred on May 14 against the New York Mets at Citi Field, resulting in a 15-minute postponement. The Pirates also had one in-game delay this season, which happened during a May 22 contest against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park. That delay lasted nearly two hours.

The Pirates have struggled in weather-affected games, holding a 1-5 record in contests involving rain delays. Their lone win in such situations came against the Mets on May 15, a 4-0 shutout.

Additional updates on the Pirates vs. Phillies game status will be provided by team officials if further changes occur.
