The bulls remain in comeback mode. So, shed your fears and be bullish. But also be selective. At this point, give weightage to the Q4 earnings of a company. Because, as the bulls make a comeback, valuations too are inching higher. If there is growth, the valuations can be justified. Otherwise, it’s better to stay away. Our selected stocks for today depict a strong upward trajectory in their overall average score which is based on five key pillars: Earnings, fundamentals, relative valuation, risk, and price momentum. This implies that there has been a significant improvement in their market outlook in the given time frame.

There are clear indications both from the RBI and in the budget that interest rates are likely to soften. Now, there are many sectors whose fortunes are linked to the rate of interest. For instance, many consumption items are brought on credit and interest rates impact the EMIs people pay. And with more disposable income in hand, thanks to the lower tax liability announced for the current financial year in the budget, consumption of some goods may increase.

Motilal Oswal projects muted Q4FY25 earnings, with just 2% YoY growth for the Nifty 50, citing sectoral drags from Oil & Gas, Cement, and Real Estate. While the near-term outlook remains weak, the brokerage remains optimistic about long-term prospects and sees recent market corrections as buying opportunities, recommending large-cap and select mid- and small-cap stocks for investors.

Motilal Oswal noted that the consumption sector’s underperformance—nearly 900-600 basis points below the Nifty100—presents attractive entry opportunities in certain stocks. The firm highlighted Page Industries, Devyani International, Metro Brands, V-Mart, Lemon Tree Hotels, LT Foods, and Cello World as top picks with solid fundamentals and growth prospects.

Companies with well-established brands have often shown that, despite market fluctuations, brand strength sustains them through tough times. Both in terms of business stability and long-term stock performance. While inflationary cycles do impact discretionary spending, the Indian economy presents a unique case. Inflation levels, although currently higher than in the recent past, have averaged significantly lower over the last decade, compared to the previous one. This has allowed consumer-facing businesses to grow steadily even when conventional wisdom suggested they would struggle. Over the past 10 years, companies with strong brands have managed to expand market share, retain pricing power, and maintain customer loyalty, enabling them to defy expectations.

ICICI Securities holds a call on Page Industries with a target price of Rs 44,000, while the current price is Rs 42,450. The company reported a total income of Rs 1327.10 crore in Q3 2024. Promoters hold a 42.89% stake. Risks include underperformance in men’s innerwear and RM inflation. Upside risk is a faster recovery in volume.

Page Industries' shares are in focus as today is the last day to qualify for an interim dividend of Rs 150 per share, with the record date set for February 13. The company expects to credit the dividend by March 7. Page Industries has declared significant dividends in the past year, offering a 1.83% dividend yield.

Budget 2025 Picks: The Union Budget 2025-26 boosts the Indian consumer sector, with a significant tax relief expected to increase disposable income, driving demand in both essential and discretionary categories. Companies like Tata Consumer and Titan are poised to benefit, with urban and premium segments seeing growth. The budget lays the foundation for long-term consumption growth through increased spending.

Page Industries share price: Page Industries shares dropped 4.6% after Q3 results showed mixed signals. Despite a 34.4% YoY profit increase and a third interim dividend of Rs 150 per share, analysts from Macquarie and Morgan Stanley expressed concerns about consumer demand and macroeconomic trends affecting financial outlook. Improvements in smaller urban areas were noted amid dampened consumer sentiment.

Since October 1, when the market began declining, promoters of nearly 120 mid- and small-cap companies have sold shares worth ₹7,000 crore.
